Clemons Brothers Furniture welcomed customers to its new six-story fireproof store in 1923. The high-rise structure was said to have few ri­vals among furniture stores in the South. The store’s location remained in operation until 1962. The building’s period design is tripartite with a visually distinct base, central core, and cap. A pressed metal cornice with corbels and dentils caps the top of the building.
