Historic Information
The William E. Breese, Sr. House, generally known today as Cedar Crest, is one of the largest and most opulent residences surviving from Asheville’s 1890s boom period. Located on a three-acre tract just north of Biltmore Village, the Queen Anne style dwelling features a prominent turret, expansive side and rear porches, and elaborate interior woodwork. Originally constructed in 1891 as a residential structure, the building was converted to lodging in the mid-1930s after briefly serving as a tubercular sanatorium during the Great Depression.
