300 - 310 W. Liberty St.
Historic Information
The project consists of two buildings: the US Customs House and Post Office built between 1853 and 1858, and the 1907 Fireproof Storage Company Warehouse. The Louisville Courier-Journal moved into the US Customs House in 1912, and eventually expanded into the adjacent warehouse in 1917. More architecturally significant of the two, the US Customs House is an outstanding example of the excellent architectural design of government buildings erected during the 1850’s under direction of Ammi B. Young, then Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department.
