Both homes are included on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Rutledge Hill Historic District. 28 Middleton has a reset entryway, two-story bay windows and a tall mansard roof featuring a bracketed cornice and window eyebrows. The neighboring 30 Middleton, known as the Dortch House, is lower in profile but has similar roof, entryway, and design elements. Its distinctive feature is a two-bay veranda.
